After the bike rental shop employees returned from their luxurious lunch break, we rented des velos for a bike ride in the Burgundy country side. We did a 14 mile loop, where we passed through Pommard, Volnay, and Mersault.
Vineyards between Beaune and Marseille
Wine tasting at Domaine Monnier with Regis who forced us to speak French. It was a challenge but we came away with an understanding that we still have a lot to learn! We tasted many different wines from the region while Regis flirted with us ;-)
Final glass of champagne before riding back home.
Harvest was officially over in Mersault as the workers drove around in their undies honking and waving to celebrate!
We made a reservation earlier that day with the owner, but when we returned for dinner, she was shocked at our transformation from sweaty gym clothes to chic evening wear... I guess we clean up nice!
By far, our best meal yet. We decided to go with the tasting menu with 4 courses and paired it superly with a bottle from our new favorite wine producer....FAIVELEY! Vincent would be proud :)
Fois Gras and chevre (goat cheese) wrapped in bacon. Beth violated her vegetarianism by eating the bacon and a slice of my duck liver!
Selection of local cheeses that were just too good to pass up
Finally, we finished with creme brûlée et chocolate mouse
Bellys full of rich French foods, we ended the evening to nurse our food hangover and rest up for the train to Avignon in the morning.
